Vista Land’s Recent Spike Cements Manny Villar as Richest Philippine Individual in 2020
Vista Land and Lifescapes, Inc. (VLL) has spiked by 14.80% to close at Php7.29 on Php100 million value turn-over last Friday. While its jump was only due to a market-on-close order (last minute buying that ‘pushed’ the stock higher) and most of its volume was only due to a ‘cross’, it is interesting to see that exactly the same scenario happened virtually the same date in 2019. Looking back, one can see that the stock also spiked in 2 consecutive runs to close at Php8.00 on February 15 and 18 last year. Interestingly again, these dates coincide with the deadline of the computation for the Forbes Magazine richest man list. Is Manny Villar himself behind VLL’s recent surge to make sure that he’s back at the top of 2020’s Forbes Magazine richest man in the Philippines list? If history is any guide, then VLL may again spike at the close of February 17, 2020. The best strategy to take advantage of this potential is to therefore SELL DOWN during the auction period in the afternoon session (3:15 to 3:19 pm) as come the next day, the stock may again ‘normalize’ at around the Php7.00 handle or even correct back to its low of ~Php6.24. Caveat.
